Lunch & Learn with New England ADA Group
On April 8, Center members came together for lunch and an engaging discussion with representatives from the New England ADA Center and the Institute for Human Centered Design. Morgayne Mulkhern, who is blind, spoke about how the New England ADA Center supports communities across the region and highlighted the many resources available on their website.
In partnership with the Institute for Human Centered Design, the New England ADA Center offers a variety of accredited, free courses on topics including: The ADA and Employment, Architectural Accessibility Laws, Overview of Disability Rights Laws, the Fair Housing Act, Section 504 and the ADA, Self-Evaluation and Transition Planning, and How the ADA Applies to Addiction and Recovery.
Center members asked insightful questions such as how recent federal changes may impact the ADA. They shared personal experiences where their rights were challenged. The conversation, led in part by Morgayne, provided valuable insights on when and how to invoke the ADA to ensure equal treatment and reasonable accommodations.
The atmosphere was warm and thoughtful, with a shared appreciation for knowing that organizations like the ADA Center are actively working to uphold the law and raise awareness of disability rights. Lunch included homemade chicken vegetable soup, sandwiches, and cookies for dessert.
