Lunch & Learn with WayAround
On Tuesday, September 7, fifteen members gathered both in-person and via Zoom to learn about WayAround, an innovative app for smart devices that provides on-demand details about everyday items. The technology uses a simple tag-and-scan approach to help users quickly identify objects around them while providing additional information such as how something works or when it expires.

The presentation was led by Neva, a blind user of assistive technology who shared her personal experiences with WayAround and explained why she prefers this solution over similar standalone products. One significant advantage she highlighted is that WayAround works directly with smartphones, eliminating the need to carry and manage a separate device. The system offers various labeling options including stickers, buttons, and clips that are durable enough to be frozen, laundered, sewn on, or adhered to different surfaces. Neva demonstrated practical applications by explaining how she uses a sticker to label her water heater with essential information like the make, model, and last service date.
